President’s Speech
Dear Guests, Ladies & Gentlemen,
I am very pleased to see so many of our friends here tonight to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the WDTA. I sincerely thank all of you for taking your valuable time joining us this evening. I also wish to express our gratitude for the generous support from our sponsors, our friends and the Presidents of different Dance Associations for their congratulatory messages.
WDTA is a non-profit charitable organization which aims at promoting development of dance arts and culture, enhancing professional standards of the dance teachers and students in Hong Kong and in the Mainland through professional dance training, performances and charitable activities. We participate in community and charity activities to convey our care and concern to the underprivileged groups in the society.
During the year, WDTA have organized a number of training programs in Hong Kong and the Mainland to enhance the dance techniques of the dance students and teachers. I was invited to conduct Latin dance lectures and training at the Anhui Professional & Technical Institute of Athletics in Anhui, China. In appreciation of my support, I was awarded the title of “Visiting Professor” for my continued contribution to the education services of the institute.
Last August, WDTA invited Mr. Michael Stylianos and Ms. Lorna Lee to conduct a "WDTA Professional Latin Technique Workshop” for the international and Chinese teachers in Hong Kong. In December, I led a team of dance students to attend a training camp at the WDC AL Naples Open in Italy. In January and August this year, WDTA cooperated with the dance academies in Shanghai and Changzhou to orgainse a “4-Day Professional Latin Training Camp” in Hong Kong conducted by international teachers for over 40 young dance students from China.
On 28 November 2016, WDTA supported the first “World Ultimate Challenge Competition” an invitation competition organized by TBC Promotions, hosted by Mr. Michael Stylianos and Ms. Lorna Lee in the UK. It brings together the top rated Amateur couples of the World. A panel of adjudicators was chosen to represent all parts of the World for their knowledge and expertise.
During the year, WDTA participated in several charitable performances and community activities in Hong Kong and in the Mainland, including the “WDTA Charity Variety Show” held at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, cooperated with the charity organization “St. James Settlement” to promote performing arts, offering free admission to the grass-roots families and young people. It aims at promoting family harmony, providing the underprivileged the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful dancing and the enchanting music. The charity shows were performed by the professional teachers of Latin dance, Chinese dance and Hip-Hop, the young dance students from Anhui, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and the professional performers of Guzheng, Violin and Piano.
We remain committed to strengthening dance training in Hong Kong and the Mainland, contributing to the dance education and the popularization of dance arts. On behalf of WDTA, I take this opportunity to thank you, the committee members, the vice presidents and the members for their support and encouragement. I look forward to your continued support to WDTA.
